Strong Mental Health Activities

Strong Mental Health Activities are Consider the amount of energy that we put into making sure that our bodies are healthy, in shape and prepared for a variety of physical activities. We are constantly on the search for the latest trends in healthy eating, be it a new fruit or some type of diet or cleanse.  In addition, we continue to join gyms throughout the country, making sure to keep our cardiovascular system going strong, as well as achieving our desired amount of muscle growth. There is no doubt that the physical aspects of our lives plays an important role for many.

With the amount of energy we exert to shape and sculpt our bodies, why is it that we do not put the same amount of effort, or at the very least more effort into our minds and psyche as well?  Part of the reason may be the deeply-rooted stigmas that we have associated with mental health over the years, and the difficulty that has plagued millions of Americans in regards to getting the proper mental healthcare.  Part of it may also be that we have simply ignored or have lost the ability to be in touch with ourselves and our spirituality, compared to the Ancient Egyptians that had uniquely embraced the balance of both the physical and mental sides of humanity.

Regardless of the reasons, it is important to understand that we should and do have ways to keep our minds active, healthy and to “train” in the same way that we train our bodies. Here are a couple of ways to consider embracing a new and healthier mindset:

Get Regular Exercise

Studies have shown that exercising on a consistent basis not only improves our bodies, but can also help reduce feelings of depression, anxiety and provides us with ways to view ourselves and our lives more favorably. Think about this: our entire cardiovascular system, including the heart, are all connected to the brain. Anything that we do that improves the functionality of these pathways will undoubtedly reap benefits for our minds as well. It stimulates the brain by creating new cells in critical parts such as neuron connections. So try to exercises at least a half hour a day, be it running, jogging, as well as throwing in some weighted activities.

Constantly Reevaluate Your Diet

You’d be surprised how important it is to eat the right things when it comes to our mental health. A diet comprised of junk foods, sugar and altogether unhealthy things can really impact the way we feel and our emotions.  Consider adding fresh fruits and vegetables throughout your intake of meals, and try and drink as much water as possible. Consult with a nutritionist or you doctor to help determine what vitamins or minerals you may be deficient in, and plan accordingly; eating healthy doesn’t have to mean food is boring!

Stimulate Your Brain

Reading, talking and engaging in face-to-face communication with friends and family and playing games such as Sudoku or anything else that challenges your mind can help make a difference. Consider it similar to training for a marathon – you don’t just get off the couch and run mile after mile without first starting to build your endurance from the ground up.  You’d be surprised how quick your mind becomes when putting it to the test consistently over weeks and months.

Get Screened for Your Mental Health

We can try to be as healthy as we want, but sometimes we can still suffer from a mental or behavioral health challenge regardless of how hard we try. If you can’t shake feelings of depression or anxiety over the course of several weeks, for example, you should consider reaching out to a mental health facility. The evaluations are generally free and completely confidential, so it wouldn’t hurt to check in on how you’re functioning if you feel something has been off.

There are many ways to keep your mind healthy and active, and it should be a part of your daily regimen, as it can help ward off additional mental health issues, as well help you build a complete and whole new you.
